Our molars, or back teeth, have deep pits and fissures on the biting surfaces. If very deep, and not properly cleaned, food can remain and cavities can begin.

Sealants are like a raincoat for our teeth. They are a thin plastic coating that is applied to the chewing surface This painless procedure helps protect those teeth from decay-causing bacteria.

HOW ARE SEALANTS APPLIED
Debris is first removed from the surface that the sealant will be applied. A conditioning solution is applied to prepare the tooth for the sealant. Sealant material is then applied to the deep pits and fissures and cured to the tooth to create an effective barrier from food and plaque.

Each time you visit your dentist for your dental exam and professional cleaning, the sealants will also be checked. Sometimes, through wear and tear, sealants need to be redone.
